Rahman, a milk delivery boy in the north-west of Iran,
is the prayer chanter at the village mosque. His mother died when he
was born and he is attracted by the icon of the Holy Virgin Mary in
the local Christian church. A strong friendship develops between him
and the old priest in the church. When the priest has an accident, Rahman
and his blind friend Davud face new responsibilities.

In the night of the winter solstice (Shab e Yalda), Hammed
begins a dark journey into the recesses of the past. Very much in love
with his wife, Hammed experiences loss, betrayal and survival through
his imposed loneliness when his wife and daughter leave Iran in search
of a better future in Germany.
